Dr. Higgins is the President and Co-Founder of Genie Health, driven by his fervor for enhancing the provider/patient relationship. His innovative tool integrates real-time patient progress data, ensuring compliance and elevating outcomes. With a diverse background, Dr. Higgins formerly served as the Chief of Brigham & Women’s Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service in Boston, MA. During this tenure, he crafted world-class clinical care and subspecialty training programs, while also holding positions as an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and within the Harvard Orthopaedic Residency program. Driven by a desire to amplify his impact, he pursued an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, supplementing his medical expertise with business acumen. Additionally, as Vice President of Strategic Development for Arthrex, a global medical device company, he has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and chapters, cementing his influence in the field.
Obtaining his medical degree with Distinction in Research from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, Dr. Higgins furthered his training with an orthopedic residency at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY, and a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at The Center for Sports Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. His tenure as Head of Sports Medicine at Duke University underscored his commitment to outcomes research, evident in the founding of the Centers for Excellence in Surgical Outcomes at Duke University Medical Center. Currently, as Chief of the Brigham & Women’s Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service, Dr. Higgins continues to shape internationally renowned programs. His pursuit of excellence led him to earn an MBA from MIT in 2015, augmenting his focus on value-driven healthcare. With over 175 peer-reviewed publications and leadership in clinical studies, Dr. Higgins remains dedicated to advancing the field, particularly in cost-effectiveness, process improvement, and bundled payment strategies.
